My name is Taryn, I'm 25, and I've just gotten back to the States after teaching English in Tokyo for a year. I have a fairly useless degree in Japanese from Penn State University, and am currently back to searching for jobs again. I really like foreign languages, and I've also studied German, Korean and Mandarin, but I've forgotten a lot from not using them. I don't like owls of any variety.

This is where I (seldomly) post stuff that's too long for Facebook, but too short for LJ. You're welcome.

Anticlimactic

Had some meeting today for my job.. I thought it was going to be an interview with the board of education in Urayasu, so I was appropriately nervous.  Especially because since it was a formal thing, we were supposed to wear suits.  I THOUGHT I brought a suit with me, but apparently I thought wrong.  Must have taken it out at the last minute to make room in my suitcase for stuffed animals, or whatever.  So I was the only one NOT wearing a suit, and it was embarassing.

But actually, we met some guy from the BOE for like 3 minutes, and he just sort of said hi and that he was looking forward to working with us this year.  Definitely not what I was expecting, because he actually seemed really friendly and helpful.  It wasn’t even really a meeting, either, so that was surprising too.  From there, our coordinators just took us to our schools so we could greet the principal and vice principals.  Both of my schools seem decent enough, and I got to make an ass of myself by not remembering anything about keigo.  On the plus side, I didn’t have a problem understanding anyone, and they seemed really glad that I know as much Japanese as I do.

School starts Monday, so I most definitely need to figure out how the hell I’m getting there sometime this weekend.  One of my schools is REALLY close to Meikai, so I definitely wanna go there again and try to stalk some of my old teachers.  Also need to buy indoor shoes, wtf.  But now it’s time to find something to eat, all I’ve eaten all day is something called “Corn Snack”, which sounds and tastes like food for barnyard animals.  Good times, thanks Japan.
